NHSC Can Help You Recruit Qualified Clinicians!

Eligible sites include health care facilities that provide outpatient, ambulatory and primary health care services (medical, dental, and behavioral) to populations residing in high-need urban and rural areas.






National Health Service Corps Loan Repayment Program

  • Primary care medical, dental and mental/behavioral health clinicians can get up to $50,000 to repay their health profession student loans in exchange for a two-year commitment to work at an approved NHSC site in a high-need, underserved area.
  • Providers must be fully trained and licensed in an eligible discipline:
    • Medicine: MD, DO, NP, CNM, PA;
    • Dentistry: DMD, DDS, RDH; and
    • Mental/Behavioral Health: HSP, LCSW, PNS, MFT, LPC.


Nurse Corps Loan Repayment Program

  • The NURSE Corps LRP offers registered nurses (RNs) substantial financial assistance to repay a portion of their qualifying educational loans in exchange for full-time service either at a critical shortage facility (CSF) or an eligible school of nursing in the case of nurse faculty (NF).
  • Up to fifty percent of NURSE Corps LRP funds will be made available for nurse practitioners (NPs), and up to twenty percent will be made available for NF.
  • FQHC must be located in, designated as, or serving a primary medical care or mental health HPSA (If a CSF has both a primary medical care score and a mental health score, the NURSE Corps LRP will use the highest HPSA score).

Ohio Physician Loan Repayment Program (OPLRP)

  • The goal of the Ohio Physician Loan Repayment Program (OPLRP) is to increase access to primary care for underserved communities and populations. In exchange for loan repayment assistance, physicians commit to practice for a minimum of two years at an eligible site in a Health Professional Shortage Area (HPSA) or Health Resource Shortage Area, accept Medicare and Medicaid, and see patients regardless of ability to pay.
  • For the first two-year contract, selected full-time applicants practicing a minimum of 40 hours per week may receive up to $25,000 annually for repayment of outstanding medical school debt. Those who remain at their practice sites and maintain eligibility may receive up to $35,000 annually for a third and fourth year of service. Part-time participants practicing between 20 and 39 hours per week may receive up to half the amount of full-time participants.

    • General Internal Medicine
    • Internal Medicine/Pediatrics
    • Obstetrics and Gynecology
    • General Pediatrics
    • Adolescent Medicine

    • Psychiatry (General, Child and Adolescent, Geriatric)


Ohio Dentist Loan Repayment Program (ODLRP)

& Ohio Dental Hygienist Loan Repayment Program (ODHLRP)

  • General and pediatric dentists and dental hygienists working in underserved areas can apply for repayment of school loans for their professional training.
  • Clinicians must provide dental services at the dental practice site(s) they have agreed upon, practicing either full-time (40 hours per week) or part-time (20-39 hours per week). Participants must serve Medicaid-eligible persons and provide dental services without regard to a patient’s ability to pay.
  • Up to $50,000 for first two years; part-time option up to $25,000 for first two years. Additional funding is available for continued service; funds are tax-exempt.

The 2018 application cycle is open. Potential sponsors for the 2018 application cycle should complete and submit the Notice of Intent to Apply form as soon as possible.  Applications for primary care and behavioral health placements (see program priority category 1) will be accepted until June 30, 2018.  All other applications must be postmarked by March 31, 2018.
