Northwest

All of the outdoor challenges you'll ever need - be it with paddle, pedal, foot, or flight - can be found in northwest Ohio. Near Lake Erie, northwest Ohio provides many water-related activities through scenic places such as Put-in-Bay and Kelleys Island, both of which offer a wide array of shops, restaurants, and entertainment. Near Put-in-Bay and Kelleys Island is Cedar Point Amusement Park, one of the most popular attractions of Ohio's northwest.

The winding Maumee River spills into Lake Erie at the city of Toledo, playing a key role in the city's roots as a major refining center and internationally known glass producer. The Medical College of Ohio at Toledo is this region's medical school.

Northeast

Whether you seek the cosmopolitan flavor of the big city or the quaint atmosphere of the rural countryside, the best of both worlds can be found in northeast Ohio. The city of Cleveland has a world-class orchestra as well as stunning theatres and museums, while Amish Country has the world's largest population of over 30,000 Amish, living in numerous farming communities throughout the region.

Northeast Ohio also boasts the Cuyahoga River Valley with deep forests, rolling hills, and open farmlands. Hamlets with historic homes and barns dot the region, giving a sense of the past. Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine are this region's medical schools.

Central

Central Ohio embodies all of what is best about the state of Ohio - a mix of tidy farming communities, upscale urban areas, and a thriving cultural and political center in the capital city of Columbus. Located in the heart of the state, Columbus is home to Ohio's lawmakers and history records, along with an exceptional array of art galleries and museums.

Central Ohio is also home to The Ohio State University, one of the nation's largest public universities, including the Ohio State University College of Medicine.

Southwest

With four-star restaurants and a prime location on the shore of the Ohio River, southwest Ohio's city of Cincinnati truly earns its nickname "the Queen City." Ohio's southwest has a rich Native American history with Fort Ancient and Serpent Mound, the largest serpent effigy in North America.

The city of Dayton pays homage to aviation founders Orville and Wilbur Wright, while the nearby city of Waynesville is the "Antiques Capital of the Midwest" with quaint shops housed in buildings dating as far back as the 1800s. The University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and Wright State University School of Medicine are this region's medical schools.

Southeast

Perhaps the state's most rugged beauty can be found in southeast Ohio, where Hocking Hills State Park has miles of tree-lined trails leading to caves, cascading waterfalls, and towering cliffs. Follow the Hocking River through the canopy of pines and oaks to Wayne National Forest, where backpackers can wander almost anywhere in 229,000 acres of natural beauty.

Southeast Ohio is an area rich in the arts, with colorful festivals and special events featuring dynamic music and food for all tastes, as well as providing ample opportunity to explore historical and cultural sites and sounds. Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Athens is this region's medical school.
