It was announced on Friday that Compass Community Health Care Center (CCHCC) has been designated Federally Qualified Healthcare Center (FQHC), Look-Alike status.
“One of the prime missions of Compass Community Health is to improve the health and well being not just of our patients, but of the entire regional population,” said Dr. Terry Johnson, Medical Director Compass Community Health in a released statement.
Johnson pointed out that Scioto County is ranked 88th of all 88 Ohio counties in terms of health indicators.
“We have a health crisis in southern Ohio – in particular in Scioto County where our poor health indexes are among the lowest in Ohio,” Johnson said. “As an FQHC-Look-Alike, Compass will be a stronger partner within the Scioto County Health Coalition and with all other healthcare providers who are working so hard to make Scioto County healthier.”
Johnson said achieving the FQHC-Look Alike status gives Compass a much greater ability to attack serious health problems.
“I am looking forward to the many challenges and opportunities that this will bring. It isn’t just good news for Compass—it is something that will benefit everyone in our community.” Johnson said.
According to released information, to achieve FQHC Look-Alike Designation, Compass Community Health demonstrated compliance with serving populations in high-need areas, will maintain or increase access to primary care health services, improve health outcomes, and reduce health disparities and many other qualifications.
“Our staff has been committed to creating a primary care program that provides not only the highest quality of care, but also focuses on the whole person. This led us to create a program of care that promotes not only access to the health care services a person needs, but also seeks to assist that person in reaching their goals, having a successful outcome, and feeling that they are being supported in leading a healthy and happy life,” said Ed Hughes, CEO Compass Community Health, in a released statement.
Hughes said the FQHC-Look Alike Designation enables Compass to provide additional services, see more people and increases ability to coordinate care among various community providers.
Compass Community Health Care Center, located at 1634 11th St., in Portsmouth, Ohio, is dedicated to serving the community’s health needs, and serves all members of the public as a primary care, family-style practice. With same-day/next-day appointments, on-site pharmacy, extended hours and free transportation for our patients, Compass Community Health Care Center is dedicated to coordinated and comprehensive care. CCHCC is accepting new patients, and medical director Dr. Terry Johnson is overseeing patient care, while medical program director Sonie Hash oversees administrative responsibilities and management of the care center.
