Health advisory issued to central Ohio physicians about Zika virus

"COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH)–Columbus Public Health has issued an advisory on the Zika virus to all central Ohio physicians.

The alert stems from the CDC’s guidelines on the virus and highlights what physicians need to know about the Zika virus, who is at risk and the symptoms.

The guidelines also recommend physicians counsel patients who are planning to travel to endemic areas about the prevention of mosquito bites and physicians are to recommend pregnant women and women planning on becoming pregnant not to travel to areas with active Zika virus transmission.

Pregnant women with Zika virus infection may give birth to infants with congenital infection & neurologic abnormalities including microcephaly..."
