Bacteria found in initial Pike test results

"WAVERLY — While the sample size of test results is still too small to positively determine the pathogen that has caused a suspected disease outbreak centered in Pike County, initial results are offering a glimpse into what it might be.

"According to the Pike County General Health District, 10 lab results had come back as of Wednesday morning from individuals who tested positive for Shigella, a group of bacteria that cause the diarrheal disease Shigellosis. The 10 positive results were from a group of 14 samples for which results have come back. One of the 14 came back positive for Salmonella..."
