OACHC Comments Regarding Ohio’s 1115 Work Requirement Waiver (State)

"The Ohio General Assembly mandated the Ohio Department of Medicaid seek federal approval for an Group VIII Work Requirement & Community Engagement 1115 Demonstration Waiver which would impose work requirements on non-exempted individuals covered through Medicaid via the Group VIII expansion. 

A hallmark of the Community Health Center Program is to ensure access to care for all Ohioans. Ohio’s extension of the Medicaid program has provided coverage to approximately 750,000 Ohioans, many of whom are seeking primary and preventive care for the first time. The majority of our patients are Medicaid beneficiaries (58%). The combination of Medicaid extension and 285+ Community Health Center sites across the state has produced more coordinated care at the right time, in the appropriate setting. As such, OACHC strongly believes any changes to Ohio’s Medicaid program should increase the quality of care and improve health outcomes..."
